In celebration of STEM Week, sponsored by the Ministry of Education and Research from February 4 to 11, the Immaginario Scientifico in Trieste offers activities in the scientific, technological, engineering, and mathematical disciplines.

When we talk about STEM disciplines, we don’t just mean scientific, technological, engineering, and mathematical subjects; it’s also an educational philosophy based on scientific literacy, interdisciplinary learning, and the integration of theory and practice.

These concepts have always been part of Immaginario’s museum approach and teaching methodologies: an example is tinkering, which involves using hands to build objects, spanning across different disciplines and fostering collaboration.

On Sunday, February 4, at 11:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., Lego Automata is scheduled: a tinkering workshop using Lego bricks and Pull Strings Lego Motors to explore levers, movements, mechanics, and technology. The activity is suitable for adults and children aged 9 and up. It is included in the museum ticket and does not require prior booking.

Moreover, from February 6 to 9, the museum in Trieste extends its opening hours until 5:00 p.m., with a special activity scheduled each day at 3:00 p.m.

On Tuesday, February 6, let’s talk about Energy in Transformation: by playing with different forms of energy, participants (aged 9+) can observe how energy transfer works, understand where different types of energy come from, and reflect on how we use them in our daily lives.

Wednesday, February 7, is dedicated to biology, with Gel Electrophoresis: On Your Marks! In molecular biology laboratories, gel electrophoresis races are conducted every day to analyze DNA: experience this technique to see how it works and what it’s used for. The activity is aimed at adults and teenagers aged 16 and up.

Thursday, February 8, we discover the allure of Secret Mathematics, in an activity suitable for those over 9 years old. For millennia, humans have needed to communicate in secret: let’s embark on the discovery of cryptography and become spies for a moment, to finally understand that… it’s all mathematics!

We start Exploring Cells on Friday, February 9: using a microscope, we will delve into the world of cells to discover how they are structured and how they function, exploring the difference between animal and plant cells. The activity is suitable for ages 6 and up.

All activities are included in the museum ticket. On-site registrations are accepted until availability is exhausted.
