For the Trieste Carnival, anticipation is at its peak as Tuesday, February 13th, marks the 30th Masked Parade, a pivotal event vying for the esteemed “Palio di Trieste.” The competition, which primarily features Trieste’s districts but welcomes all, kicks off at 2:00 PM.
Following tradition, the parade will traverse its familiar route, commencing from Oberdan Square and winding through Carducci Street, Reti Street, Imbriani Street, Corso Italia, and Piazza della Borsa, before culminating in Piazza dell’Unità d’Italia for the grand finale and awards ceremony.
On the esteemed stage of Piazza Unità, Mayor Roberto Dipiazza, along with Municipal Councilor Giorgio Rossi and Miss Trieste 2023, Giulia Crosara, will crown the triumphant district.
This year, eight districts vie for the prestigious “Palio di Trieste 2024,” aiming to dethrone Valmaura, the current titleholder. From Servola’s festive “Let’s Wrap Servola” to San Giovanni’s elemental tribute, each district brings its unique theme to the lively procession.
Leading the entertainment pre and post-ceremony is Trieste’s beloved showman Mauro Manni, supported by the Mami Staff and featuring special performances by the Asd TimeforTango’s TimeforYOU students, choreographed by professional dancer Carol Miloch.
After midnight, the festivities will shift to Servola for the poignant Funeral Vigil honoring poor Cornelio, followed by the ceremonial Funerals in both San Giovanni and Servola, marking the carnival’s dramatic conclusion.
