Trieste Set to Host Second General States Meeting on Sustainable Development in Upper Adriatic and Central Europe

In a bid to address pressing environmental concerns, particularly air quality, the second meeting of the General States for Sustainable Development of the Upper Adriatic and Central Europe is slated to convene in Trieste on March 20-21, 2024.

Led by Fabio Scoccimarro, the regional assessor for Environment, Energy, and Sustainable Development, the event aims to foster collaboration among technicians to draft a joint working document. This document will delineate potential modes of cooperation and data exchange regarding air quality monitoring and assessment across individual countries, serving as a supportive mechanism for implementing European Directives.

The second meeting of the General States for Sustainable Development of the Upper Adriatic and Central Europe is set to convene in Trieste on March 20-21, 2024, with a focus on addressing environmental concerns, particularly those pertaining to air quality.

Announced by Fabio Scoccimarro, the regional assessor for Environment, Energy, and Sustainable Development, the event aims to facilitate collaboration among technicians in drafting a joint working document. This document, according to Mr. Scoccimarro, will outline potential modes of cooperation and data exchange concerning air quality monitoring and assessment across individual countries. The collaboration efforts are intended to serve as a supportive mechanism for implementing European Directives, with a specific emphasis on border areas, given their unique geographical and administrative characteristics.

The second day of the event will feature the presentation of the finalized document, attended by institutional representatives from partner countries. Mr. Scoccimarro emphasized that the primary objective of the two-day gathering is to operationalize commitments outlined in the Memorandum for Sustainable Development of the Upper Adriatic and Central Europe. The memorandum was signed in Trieste following the inaugural edition of the General States held in March 2023.
