The Civil Protection of Friuli Venezia Giulia has issued an orange alert for hydro-geological and meteorological criticality for Friday and Saturday.

On Friday, February 23rd, there will be intense or very intense precipitation in the mountainous area with heavy snowfall at higher altitudes, particularly in the Julian Alps and Prealpi Giulie. The snowfall limit is generally above 1000-1300 meters in the Alps, and 1300-1500 meters in the Prealps; during the day, snow may also accumulate at lower altitudes in the Tarvisiano area. There will be intense rain in the plains, especially towards the foothills, and more moderate towards the coast. In the evening, there is a possibility of some thunderstorms. Scirocco winds will blow from sustained to strong on the coast and part of the plain, temporarily shifting to Libeccio in the evening.

High tides are expected, especially between Lignano and Grado, with a low probability of high water. At higher altitudes, there will be southwest winds from sustained to strong. The Isonzo river is at risk of flooding.

The alert is yellow in Trieste and its province. On Saturday, February 24th, there will be a general attenuation of the phenomena overnight and in the early morning.
