Interdepartmental Center for Energy, Environment, and Transport “Giacomo Ciamician” at the University of Trieste, in collaboration with the Luciano Fonda University College of Merit, is set to host “Powering the Just Transition,” a public engagement initiative scheduled for Wednesday, March 20th, commencing at 4 p.m. in the prestigious Aula Magna of Building A on the Piazzale Europa campus.

The event will feature a distinguished guest, Daniel Kammen, a professor at the University of Berkeley renowned globally for his expertise in energy transition. Professor Kammen will delve into the transition toward fully decarbonized economies, emphasizing innovation and the interdisciplinary collaboration across various domains of knowledge.

In his keynote address delivered in English, Professor Kammen will address the imperative of climate justice in safeguarding both human health and the planet, alongside strategies for constructing an equitable energy transition. This includes ensuring healthcare access in resource-constrained communities and mitigating the economic repercussions of decarbonization.

Professor Kammen’s illustrious research career boasts over 450 published articles, accessible via the website of his laboratory, the Renewable and Appropriate Energy Laboratory (RAEL, http://rael.berkeley.edu). His work predominantly focuses on decarbonized energy systems, energy access, and environmental justice.

Notably, Professor Kammen has served as a scientific advisor to the State of California and held advisory roles in both the Obama and Biden administrations. Moreover, he has chaired the technical commission for renewable energy and energy efficiency at the World Bank.

The event will commence with a tribute from Professor Vanni Lughi (DIA) honoring the legacy of Maurizio Fermeglia, the recently departed emeritus rector of UniTS, who championed environmental preservation, climate justice, and energy transition.

Moderating the proceedings, conducted entirely in English, will be Professor Romeo Danielis (DEAMS), an esteemed faculty member specializing in Transport Economics at the University of Trieste.
