In a celebration of theatrical finesse and musical mastery, the hallowed halls of the Victor de Sabata Hall at the Verdi Theater Lounge are set to resonate with the melodious strains of “Arlechin and Colombina” from April 4th to April 12th, 2024.
This vibrant opera, brought to life by the creative genius of Matteo Musumeci’s music and Andrea Binetti’s adaptation, marks a new commission by the esteemed Giuseppe Verdi Lyric Theater Foundation of Trieste. Under the baton of conductor Stefano Furini and the astute direction of Andrea Binetti himself, this production promises to captivate audiences with its blend of timeless charm and contemporary flair.
Set against the backdrop of 18th-century Venice, “Arlechin and Colombina” draws inspiration from the classic Arlecchinata by Salieri and Da Ponte. With Giacomo Segulia, Marzia Postogna, and Andrea Binetti himself leading the talented cast, audiences can expect a spellbinding journey through the labyrinthine streets of Carnival-era Venice, where love, laughter, and intrigue intertwine with the spirit of Carlo Goldoni.
Speaking about the production, Andrea Binetti remarked, “We’ve crafted a world that transcends reality, immersing audiences in a realm of sound, color, and boundless imagination. From the outset, our aim was to breathe new life into ‘The Arlecchinata’, infusing it with the vibrant energy of Carnival and the timeless allure of Venetian theater.”
Matteo Musumeci’s enchanting score serves as a musical tapestry, weaving together elements of commedia dell’arte, operetta, and Italian musical comedy. With its lively waltzes, sultry tangos, and infectious rhythms, the music transports listeners to a bygone era, while remaining firmly rooted in the present.
With tickets priced at a modest $10, and special rates of $5 for students and under 18s, the production aims to make the magic of opera accessible to all. Reservations can be made via email at promotion@teatroverdi-trieste.com, while tickets are available for purchase at the theater box office, ensuring that audiences have ample opportunity to experience this theatrical extravaganza.
As the curtains rise on “Arlechin and Colombina”, audiences can anticipate an unforgettable fusion of music, drama, and spectacle, transporting them to a world where dreams take flight and the spirit of Carnival reigns supreme.
