Amidst the cobblestone streets and historic architecture of Trieste, a coastal gem in northeastern Italy, the SeaDoMake Festival emerges as a beacon of oceanic awareness. In its 2024 edition, the festival presents two captivating sessions delving into the mysteries and conservation imperatives of the deep blue.

On Thursday, April 18th, at 6:00 PM, the illustrious Miela Theater becomes a stage for “SeaDoMakeBooks – Of cephalopods and other stories from the deep.” Anchored by scientific communicators Marco Colombo and the dynamic duo Lorenzo Peter Castelletto and Marco Tabilio, the discussion promises to unveil the enigmatic world of octopuses, cuttlefish, and squids. With the backdrop of mesmerizing footage from the Schmidt Ocean Institute, attendees will embark on a journey through the ocean’s depths. Marina D’Alessandro, from the OGS, will steer the conversation, culminating in a delightful cocktail reception with book signings.

Days later, on Monday, April 22nd, at 6:00 PM, the Miela Theater sets sail once more with “Heading towards the Ocean: stories of sea and ice explorations.” Renowned explorer Alex Bellini takes center stage, recounting his recent adventures alongside researchers Roberto Romeo and Paola Rivaro, fresh from their Antarctic odyssey aboard the Research Vessel Laura Bassi. Paola Del Negro, OGS’s General Director, and Maurizio Spoto, Director of the WWF Marine Protected Area Miramare, will guide attendees through a visual voyage, showcasing the awe-inspiring “Blue Panda” sailboat, emblematic of the WWF’s marine conservation efforts.

Since its inception in 2021, the SeaDoMake Festival has been a steadfast advocate for ocean-centric dialogue, urging communities to recognize the critical importance of marine ecosystems. As humanity’s survival and the well-being of countless species hang in the balance, Trieste stands as a bastion of hope, where knowledge and passion converge to chart a course towards a sustainable future.
