In a celebration of maritime heritage and cultural exchange, the annual “Prua a Siroco” festival is set to grace the shores of Trieste and Muggia on April 19th and 20th. Now in its ninth edition, the festival promises a vibrant showcase of history, customs, music, and traditions associated with the Adriatic Sea.
The event, known for its immersive exploration of Adriatic culture, aims to foster a deeper connection among communities along the coastline, from Venice to Kotor. With a theme of unity through shared maritime history, festival-goers can expect an array of activities highlighting the rich tapestry of Adriatic life.
“We’re thrilled to once again open our hearts and harbors to all who share a love for the sea and its stories,” said Andrea Sfetez, the festival’s organizational secretary. “Whether you’re a seasoned sailor or a landlubber dreaming of distant shores, ‘Prua a Siroco’ offers something for everyone.”
Kicking off on April 19th at the Nautical Institute “Tomaso di Savoia Duca di Genova” in Trieste, attendees will be treated to a chorus of sea shanties by the “Semplici Note” choir of the Serenade Ensemble. The program will delve into topics ranging from the historical significance of Piran’s Punta Madonna lighthouse to the legendary Trieste shipbuilding prowess exemplified by the “Corazzata Roma” of the 1930s.
As the sun sets on the first day, the festivities will continue in Muggia on April 20th at the Giorgini Hall of the Muggia Sailing Club. Here, visitors can enjoy traditional maritime melodies by the Choir of the Italian Community of Abbazia and explore the artistry of local talents such as Loris Perkavac and Andrea Lodi.
“This festival is not just about entertainment; it’s a celebration of our shared heritage and a testament to the enduring bonds forged by the sea,” remarked festival organizer Ferdinando Parlato. “Through music, art, and storytelling, we hope to honor the past while charting a course for a more connected future.”
The “Prua a Siroco” festival is organized by the Wind Orchestra “Città di Muggia,” with support from the Municipality of Muggia and collaboration from various community organizations. Admission is free, offering an inclusive opportunity for all to experience the magic of the Adriatic.
