The Trieste Airport has officially inaugurated its Ryanair base, laying the foundations for increased tourism growth, connectivity and investments in the region.

‘Ryanair has a long history in Friuli Venezia Giulia and with Fedriga we shared common growth objectives. The region and the airport must become more competitive.’

Eddie Wilson, CEO or Ryanair, left us with these statements on his visit to Trieste in January and came back today to cut the ribbon and celebrate the official opening of the base of Trieste Airport and the new connections for Summer 2024.

Adding Brindisi, Seville, Berlin, Krakow, Paris, Budapest and Olbia to the already existing routes, Ryanair is committed to Friuli Venezia Giulia and is expecting to grow and reach their objective of 750 thousand passengers over the coming years.

Ryanair’s €100m investment in FVG has been made possibile as a result of the landmark decision by the region to eliminate the municipal tax on departing passengers. The Irish airline has long campaigned for the abolishment of this contribution and hopes that the example of FVG will be adopted by other Italian regions in order to increase the number of visitors, to offer new jobs and have a positive impact on the GDP of the whole country.

Eddie Wilson, together with the Country Manager for Italy, Marco Bolla, the president of the Region FVG Massimiliano Fedriga and the senior management of Trieste Airport celebrated the official inauguration of the 18th Ryanair base in Italy by expressing his enthusiasm and interest in the territory.

I define myself as an unconventional expat: I lived in Budapest for five years and I recently moved back to Trieste. Today I look at my homeland with different eyes, I love to (re)discover places of my childhood or to find new spots around the region. Living abroad and traveling around made me an open-minded and tolerant person and my studies in foreign languages and journalism gave me the right amount of creativity and curiosity to never stop exploring.
