Against the backdrop of the azure Adriatic Sea, a historic collaboration between Solaris Yachts and Barcolana is poised to make waves in the world of sailing. The inaugural Barcolana Solaris Adriatic Cup, slated to run from October 10 to 12, promises to be a celebration of maritime excellence, blending the rich heritage of Italian shipbuilding with the thrill of competitive racing.
The genesis of this partnership can be traced back to the Friuli Venezia Giulia region, where Solaris Yachts first set sail in 1974, carving out a niche for itself as a purveyor of luxury yachts renowned for their craftsmanship and performance. Meanwhile, the Barcolana Regatta, founded by the Società Velica di Barcola e Grignano in 1969, has long been a cornerstone of Italy’s sailing calendar, drawing sailors from around the globe to the Gulf of Trieste.
“For Solaris Yachts, this collaboration is not just about racing; it’s about celebrating our roots and honoring our legacy,” says Federico Gambini, President of Solaris Yachts. “As we mark our 50th anniversary, we are proud to join forces with Barcolana to showcase the beauty and excitement of sailing in the Adriatic.”
Mitja Gialuz, President of the Società Velica di Barcola e Grignano, shares Gambini’s enthusiasm, noting, “The Barcolana Solaris Adriatic Cup represents a convergence of tradition and innovation, bringing together two titans of the maritime world in a celebration of the sea.”
From October 10 to 12, sailors and spectators alike will be treated to a spectacle of racing and revelry as Solaris Yachts and Barcolana join forces for a series of regattas and events along the Adriatic coast. Highlights include the Barcolana Maxi Trophy Portopiccolo, where boats over 16 meters in length will compete for top honors against the stunning backdrop of Trieste’s coastline.
The festivities will reach a crescendo on October 12 with the awards ceremony and anniversary celebration, paying tribute to Solaris Yachts’ 50 years of innovation and excellence. As the sun sets on the final day of racing, the Barcolana Solaris Adriatic Cup boats will set sail for the Rive di Trieste, where they will join the illustrious Barcolana56 presented by Generali on October 13.
This groundbreaking collaboration is not only a testament to the enduring spirit of partnership but also a celebration of the unique cultural and maritime heritage of the Friuli Venezia Giulia region. As the Barcolana Solaris Adriatic Cup prepares to set sail, it serves as a reminder of the boundless possibilities that await those who dare to explore the open seas.
