The 15th annual “Infiorata di Opicina”, hosted by the Consortium Together with Opicina – Skupaj na Opčinah in collaboration with the Municipality of Trieste, is the occasion showcase the deep-rooted traditions and community spirit of Opicina, a charming village nestled in the heart of Trieste countryside.

The Infiorata, a celebration of spring, returned once again to Opicina in 2024, promising a spectacle of colors and fragrances that have come to define the event over the years. With the support of the Association for the Defense of Opicina-Združenje za Zaščito Opčin and the Cultural Association “Marino Simic,” the Infiorata aims to beautify the karst village with an array of flowers and plants, while also honoring local customs and heritage.

At the press conference held in the Trieste Town Hall, key figures including Deputy Mayor Serena Tonel and Councilor for Economic Policies, along with representatives from the organizing associations, shared their enthusiasm for the event’s milestone year. The Infiorata, they emphasized, not only adds aesthetic charm to Opicina but also fosters community engagement and economic opportunities for local businesses and establishments.

“This historic initiative,” remarked Nadia Bellina, President of the Consortium Together with Opicina, “embodies the close collaboration between our local bodies and the enduring commitment of the municipal administration to Opicina’s well-being. The Infiorata is not just a floral display; it’s a testament to our collective pride in our heritage and our shared vision for the future.”

Dario Vremec, President of the Association for the Defense of Opicina, echoed these sentiments, highlighting the pivotal role played by the association in preserving and promoting Opicina’s unique identity. “As we embark on the 15th edition of the Infiorata,” he declared, “we celebrate not only the beauty of our surroundings but also the resilience of our community.”

The Infiorata, which officially kicks off on May 13 with the opening of registrations, invites residents and businesses alike to participate in embellishing their surroundings with floral displays. A jury of experts will evaluate the entries, honoring creativity, and adherence to local traditions.

The culmination of the event will be the award ceremony on July 14, where the winners will be recognized for their contributions to Opicina’s floral tapestry. As the festivities unfold, Opicina’s streets will come alive with the colors of spring, a testament to the enduring spirit of community and tradition in this picturesque Italian village.
