In an innovative endeavor to make science and nature accessible to all, the Scientific Museums of Trieste are set to launch another installment of “Learning while walking – nature conferences.” This initiative, spearheaded by individuals with disabilities under the auspices of the Social Cooperative Trieste Integrazione in collaboration with Anffas, promises an enlightening journey through the natural wonders of the Trieste region.

Led by Deborah Arbulla from the Civic Museum of Natural History of Trieste, participants will embark on a delightful 2.5-kilometer stroll, traversing an easy route designed to accommodate wheelchairs. Along the way, scheduled stops will delve into topics emblematic of the Trieste Karst, from the versatile applications of Karst stone to the enigmatic caves housing the Timavo River and the proteus, a rare aquatic salamander. Attendees will also uncover the region’s distinctive flora and fauna and explore the presence of newfound species.

What sets this excursion apart is its commitment to inclusivity. Utilizing texts written in Easy-to-Read Language, organizers ensure that information remains accessible to diverse audiences, including those with limited language proficiency and families with young children. This approach aligns with the broader mission of the “Accessible Museum” project, aimed at simplifying scientific concepts for wider dissemination and understanding.

Moreover, participants will receive a complementary publication elucidating the walk’s contents in Easy-to-Read Language, further enhancing the educational experience. Admission to the event is free, with registration facilitated through a downloadable form. To secure a spot, prospective attendees are required to reserve in advance via phone or email.

The meeting point, conveniently reachable by Bus No. 39/ and No. 51, will be communicated upon reservation. However, organizers caution that inclement weather may necessitate the cancelation of the outing. Scheduled to commence at 14:45, this immersive exploration promises to captivate nature enthusiasts and science aficionados alike, offering a unique opportunity to discover the wonders of the Trieste landscape through an inclusive lens.
