In a heartfelt nod to a cultural luminary, the Region of Trieste stands in deep appreciation of the indelible mark left by maestro Lelio Luttazzi on the city’s artistic landscape and the wider nation. Since 2023, a series of events commemorating the centennial of his birth has unfolded, championed by the Foundation bearing his name. Luttazzi’s legacy, as both a virtuoso and an inspiration to generations of artists, resonates profoundly in the hearts of Trieste’s denizens and beyond.

The sentiment was eloquently conveyed by the Vice Governor of Friuli Venezia Giulia, entrusted with the portfolios of Culture and Sports, during the unveiling of an event calendar set to pay homage to the esteemed pianist and composer throughout the coming months. Today’s presentation, attended by luminaries including the maestro’s widow Rossana Luttazzi, the artistic director of the festival Gabriele Centis, and the esteemed conductor Claudio Mansutti, unveiled a rich tapestry of tributes set to unfold from late spring through the summer.

Trieste, a city that bore witness to both economic resurgence and cultural renaissance in the post-war era, owes much of its artistic revival to the contributions of Lelio Luttazzi. By throwing its weight behind initiatives honoring his memory, the Region aspires to ignite a fresh wave of cultural renewal, serving as a beacon of inspiration for the youth.

In a gracious gesture, the regional councilor extended gratitude to Rossana Luttazzi for her unwavering dedication and professionalism in enriching the community. Furthermore, commendation was bestowed upon the inclusive approach of disseminating events across the region’s capitals, fostering a sense of cultural unity among the diverse array of artists and stakeholders involved.

The symphonic homage to Luttazzi, initiated with a poignant concert in Trieste on May 9 featuring the Teatro Verdi Symphony Orchestra and maestro Danilo Rea, will continue to resonate in three additional cities. From Pordenone’s Concordia Auditorium to the grand stages of Gorizia and Udine, the Fvg Orchestra under the baton of maestro Valter Sivilotti will serenade audiences alongside an ensemble of esteemed musicians.

Come July 18, the verdant grounds of the Civic Museum Sartorio will serve as the backdrop for another musical soirée, courtesy of the Lelio Luttazzi Foundation, as part of the esteemed TriesteLovesJazz festival. Here, the “Luttazzi Legacy Trio,” comprising Manuel Magrini on piano, Massimo Moriconi on double bass, and Giovanni Colasanti on drums, will enchant listeners with their virtuosity.

As July draws to a close, the collaboration between the Lelio Luttazzi Foundation and the IUC University Concert Institution will culminate in a concert at the Botanical Garden Museum of the University of Rome “La Sapienza,” featuring the winner of the prestigious Lelio Luttazzi Prize 2023, the prodigious jazz pianist Vittorio Esposito.

For those eager to partake in this celebration of musical genius, all events are conveniently listed on the Foundation’s website, beckoning music aficionados far and wide to join in honoring the enduring legacy of Lelio Luttazzi.
