The Cannes Film Festival is back in its 77th edition, welcoming artists from around the world. Ali Abbasi’s film, starring Sebastian Stan, presented at the Cannes Film Festival, is one of the contenders for the desired Palme D’Or, premiered just in time for the American presidential elections later this fall.

The Apprentice, which had its world premiere in competition at this year’s Cannes film festival on Monday, is directed by the Iranian-Danish film-maker Ali Abbasi.

The Canadian, Danish and Irish production has already been sold to a number of foreign territories, but is yet to land a US distribution deal. The film is also claimed to be facing a legal challenge from lawyers connected to billionaire Trump donor Dan Snyder.
