This summer, the historic Miramare Castle and its lush parklands will be the backdrop for a series of performances that intertwine music, theater, and the timeless theme of love. “Il Rossetti a Miramare,” now in its fourth edition, returns with an evocative program that aims to enhance the cultural and tourist offerings of the Friuli Venezia Giulia region.

From June 29 to July 24, audiences will be treated to five distinct performances, each exploring different facets of love. This year’s series, the result of a collaboration between the Historical Museum and the Park of Miramare Castle and the Teatro Stabile del Friuli Venezia Giulia, promises to weave a rich tapestry of emotions, beginning with the inaugural “Sunset Concert” on June 29.

The prestigious Giuseppe Verdi Opera House Foundation of Trieste, a key partner for the second consecutive year, will open the festival with a melodrama based on Goethe’s “Werther,” featuring acclaimed actor Sergio Rubini and the Opera House’s orchestra, conducted by Maestro Alvise Casellati. This performance, blending music and prose, sets the tone for a summer of artistic exploration.

As dawn breaks on June 30, the park will come alive with the sounds of Mozart during the “Dawn Concert,” commencing precisely at 5:19 a.m. Two of Mozart’s quintets, written for his virtuoso friends, will be performed by a chamber ensemble from the Orchestra of the Teatro Verdi, offering a moment of musical serenity and brilliance.

The park itself takes center stage in “The Secrets of the Archduke’s Gardens,” running from July 2 to 7. This theatrical journey, written and directed by Paola Bonesi, will guide visitors through the botanical passions of Archduke Maximilian, inviting them to encounter historical figures and timeless tales amidst the twilight’s glow.

Shakespeare’s profound connection with nature is celebrated in “Green Shakespeare: Trees, Storms, Flowers and the Moon,” which returns from July 9 to 19 after a weather-challenged debut last year. This production, curated by Paolo Valerio, delves into the Bard’s portrayal of nature’s dual role as both nurturing and menacing. Performances will unfold in the park’s most picturesque corners, with actors from the regional Stabile interpreting Shakespeare’s vivid natural imagery.

Concluding the festival, from July 20 to 24, “Discourses of Love to Listen to and Read at Sunset” draws inspiration from the tender letters of Archduke Maximilian to his wife Charlotte. Stefania Rocca, an esteemed figure in Italian cinema and theater, will lead this intimate performance, accompanied by an actor and live musicians. The audience will journey through history’s most passionate epistolary exchanges, with the unique opportunity for spectators to hear their own love letters read aloud.

Tickets for all performances go on sale May 24, with prices varying by event. The inaugural “Sunset Concert” is priced at €30 (full) and €25 (reduced), while the “Dawn Concert” is €20 (full) and €15 (reduced). Subsequent performances range from €20 to €17. Advance purchase is strongly recommended.

This year’s “Il Rossetti a Miramare” promises a captivating blend of art, history, and natural beauty, offering an unparalleled cultural experience in one of Italy’s most enchanting settings.
