In a much-anticipated return, the Piccolo Opera Festival will once again grace the scenic landscapes of the Italian and Slovenian Collio region from June 21 to July 7. This year’s festival, under the enchanting theme of “Fantasy,” promises a series of operas and concerts set against the backdrop of the area’s most magical and picturesque venues.

The festival will kick off with a special preview concert on Friday, May 31, at the Grand Hotel Astoria in Grado, a location known for its elegance and charm. This preview event, “Fantasy. Music and Stories,” will feature renowned sopranos Caterina Trevisan and Iana Rata, accompanied by maestro Elia Macrì on piano. The evening’s program includes beloved arias and duets from the operatic masterpieces of Giacomo Puccini, marking the centenary of his death, Antonín Dvořák, and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.

Set on the Island of the Sun, the preview concert will gather friends, supporters, collaborators, artists, and audiences of the festival. It aims to draw in opera and chamber music enthusiasts, tourists, and newcomers alike, fostering a spirit of musical appreciation, community, and conviviality.

Artistic Director Gabriele Ribis and the festival staff will provide a glimpse into the upcoming season, sharing insights into the carefully curated musical selections and the discovery and rediscovery of venues ranging from natural landscapes to historic palaces and magnificent villas. The festival’s cross-border collaboration and focus on sustainability will also be highlighted, all woven into the theme of Fantasy.
