The Eastern Adriatic Sea Port Authority is undergoing a significant leadership transition following the resignation of its president, Zeno D’Agostino. The Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Matteo Salvini, has appointed Vittorio Torbianelli as the extraordinary commissioner.
Torbianelli, who has served as the general secretary of the Authority since April 2021, is expected to ensure continuity in the ongoing projects, many of which are infrastructural. “We will work to continue the extraordinary work done by President D’Agostino,” Torbianelli stated, emphasizing his commitment to the timely commencement and completion of projects funded by the PNRR and PNC funds.
Torbianelli’s career before joining the AdSP in 2017 included a tenure as an associate professor of Economics at the University of Trieste and extensive work as a consultant and economic expert in the ports and logistics sectors for various national and international institutions.
Minister Salvini expressed confidence in Torbianelli’s ability to lead the Authority through this transitional period. The new commissioner underscored the importance of synergy with local entities and the development of the port system’s activities around the ports of Trieste and Monfalcone. “The well-being of the community will be the guiding principle on which we will focus,” he said.
D’Agostino, who led the port of Trieste and later Monfalcone for nearly a decade (February 2015 – May 2024), has expressed his gratitude to Torbianelli for his contributions over the years. He extended his best wishes to the new commissioner for the future challenges awaiting the Authority, particularly the ongoing infrastructure investments in the two ports, which he described as strategic not only for the local territory but for the country as a whole. “The system centered around the Giulian port is not only a model but a driver of over 2 billion in investments from both public and private sectors,” D’Agostino emphasized.
The change in leadership marks a new chapter for the Port System Authority of the Eastern Adriatic Sea, with a focus on maintaining momentum in its critical infrastructural and community development projects.
