In a significant boost to the regional public maritime service, the Autonomous Region of Friuli Venezia Giulia announced the acquisition of two new vessels, thanks to an infusion of approximately 3 million euros from ministerial funds. These vessels will enhance the region’s capacity to transport both passengers and bicycles.

The regional councillor for Infrastructure and Territory made the announcement following the Regional Council’s approval of an agreement between Friuli Venezia Giulia and the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport. The new vessels will be purchased by Tpl Fvg Scarl, which will contribute additional resources to cover the total estimated cost of 3.75 million euros.

The larger of the two vessels will have a capacity to transport 280 to 300 passengers and 50 bicycles. It will be equipped with three restrooms, including one that is accessible. The smaller vessel will accommodate 150 to 180 passengers and 35 bicycles, with two restrooms, one of which will be accessible. Both vessels will reach speeds of up to 20 knots.

“This opportunity allows Tpl Fvg Scarl, through its consortia, to begin a more direct management process of the public maritime transport services,” the councillor remarked. The initiative forms part of a ten-year assignment of public transport services within the single regional basin.

The addition of these vessels represents a substantial upgrade for the regional maritime service, promising enhanced accessibility and efficiency for passengers and cyclists alike.
