In a significant move to enhance public transportation, Trieste Trasporti is set to launch a new seasonal summer bus route, Line 20, which will commence operations on June 9. The announcement was made during a press conference held at Piazza Oberdan on Thursday, June 6.

The new Line 20, which will traverse Porto Vecchio/PortoVivo and terminate at Piazzale 11 Settembre, promises to seamlessly connect the coastal areas of Muggia and Barcola. This strategic initiative is part of a broader effort to bolster public transport services during the busy summer months.

Line 20 has been described by Maurizio Marzi Wildauer, president of Trieste Trasporti, as a “bus-based subway line,” highlighting its expected high frequency and capacity. With over 70 stops and daily arrivals every day of the week at the new terminal in Piazzetta 11 Settembre 2001, Barcola is poised to become one of the city’s most accessible areas this summer.

The introduction of Line 20 is accompanied by the rollout of Trieste’s new summer schedule, which will also take effect on June 9. This initiative underscores the city’s commitment to enhancing urban mobility and reducing congestion on existing routes, specifically lines 6 and 36.

“We are focusing on electric vehicles for this line,” Mr. Marzi stated, emphasizing the environmental benefits and the ambition to create a high-frequency, high-capacity service. “This is akin to establishing a surface subway line.”

Michele Babuder, the municipal councilor for Territorial Policies, echoed these sentiments, noting that the new line represents a crucial partnership between Trieste Trasporti and the regional authorities. “We are creating a new connection that will ease the load on existing lines and provide easier access to Porto Vecchio and the Trieste coast during the summer.”

The complete journey from Muggia to Barcola is expected to take approximately 40 minutes, offering residents and tourists a reliable and efficient means of transportation along one of the city’s most scenic routes.
