Today, Sunday, June 9, 2024, the picturesque town of Muggia will once again host the beloved “Corte dei Miracoli,” a market that has become a staple for enthusiasts of small antiques, modern collectibles, and artisanal crafts. Organized by the cultural association Cose di Vecchie Case in collaboration with the Municipality of Muggia, this event transforms the town’s Piazza della Repubblica and Via Roma into a vibrant marketplace every second Sunday of the month from 8 a.m. until sunset. Admission is free, welcoming both locals and tourists alike.
Now in its twenty-fifth year, the “Corte dei Miracoli” is a carefully curated showcase. It features a wide array of antiques, modern antiques, handcrafted items, and collectibles. The cultural association Cose di Vecchie Case, which marked its quarter-century milestone in 2023, has been the driving force behind this monthly gathering, drawing exhibitors from across the region. Their dedication, alongside the support of the Muggia municipality, ensures a continually evolving display that caters to diverse tastes and interests.
Today’s market promises to be a haven for collectors and casual browsers alike. Visitors will find an array of vintage vinyl records, classic comics, intricate miniatures, and meticulously crafted models. These treasures, housed under elegant gazebos, evoke a sense of nostalgia and discovery. The market also highlights seasonal themes, with a special focus on spring as the town looks forward to the approaching summer.
From early morning until the evening light fades, Muggia’s “Corte dei Miracoli” offers more than just a shopping experience. It is an anticipated social event, a place where surprises await at every turn. Whether it’s a unique gift or a personal keepsake, the market’s array of curiosities and antiques never fails to captivate its audience.
The market’s diverse offerings include beer mugs, antique paintings, ornate frames, ceramics, vintage photographs, and gramophones, alongside records in 45, 33, and 78 rpm formats. Antique books and tin toys further enrich the selection. Collectors can also peruse phone cards, surprise collections, toy soldiers, miniature cars, Smurfs, and plush toys, each item rich with history and ready for a new chapter.
A significant feature of the market is its section devoted to artistic crafts. Shoppers can find exquisite glassware, ceramics, wrought iron, woodwork, leather goods, painted flowers, and delicate lacework. Ethnic jewelry, Tiffany-style glass, artisanal soaps, painted fabrics, and embroidered dolls also make up this colorful display. Additionally, items reflecting the nautical charm of the Gulf, such as intricately decorated ceramic plates, are sure to draw admiration.
Since its inception in 1998, the association Cose di Vecchie Case has grown to over 350 members. With decades of experience, it organizes events that feature more than 100 private exhibitors, including collectors, hobbyists, artists, and artisans. Their collaborations with the municipal administrations of Trieste, Duino-Aurisina, Muggia, Grado, Monfalcone, Palmanova, Gradisca d’Isonzo, Ronchi dei Legionari, and Bordano have cemented their reputation as leading organizers of cultural events. Their portfolio also includes musical events and children’s activities, further enriching the cultural tapestry of the region.
As Muggia welcomes visitors today, the “Corte dei Miracoli” stands as a testament to the town’s vibrant community spirit and its dedication to preserving and celebrating the art of the past.
