This Saturday, June 15th, Trieste will host the inaugural BiTS Bike Day, an event celebrating the city’s burgeoning bike-sharing program. Managed by Trieste Trasporti, the BiTS initiative offers over a hundred bicycles stationed at 23 locations throughout the city, accessible around the clock, 365 days a year. The day-long festival aims to promote sustainable urban transportation and encourage the use of the bike-sharing service.

Participants can join the event by simply downloading the Weelo app, available for both Android and iOS, registering, and selecting a suitable tariff. The event will run from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Scala Reale on Riva del Mandracchio, featuring information booths, equipped areas, and a temporary bike station where attendees can test ride BiTS bicycles and learn more about the service.

The festivities will be enhanced by the presence of local influencers and will include activities designed for children, ensuring a family-friendly atmosphere. Highlighting the day are three engaging contests, open to all, offering the chance to win 500 annual subscriptions to the BiTS bike-sharing service and a variety of BiTS-branded merchandise.

Contest Highlights:

  • BiTS Friends: The first 400 attendees to register for the bike-sharing service on the day of the event will receive a complimentary annual subscription.
  • BiTS Lovers: Enthusiasts can embark on a city-wide adventure, aiming to visit all 23 bike stations in the shortest time within the 12-hour window. The fastest three participants will be awarded at the day’s end.
  • BiTS Street Art: Using the Strava app, participants can map out their creative routes throughout the city. The three most inventive routes will be recognized with prizes.

BiTS Bike Day also serves as a prelude to the European Mobility Week 2024, slated for September, which focuses on enhancing awareness around cycling mobility, intermodality, and the utilization of local public transport. The initiative underscores Trieste’s commitment to fostering sustainable urban living and reducing the city’s carbon footprint.
