In a concerted effort to ensure public safety and environmental compliance, the Friuli Venezia Giulia Environmental Protection Agency has completed additional water sampling in several of the region’s popular bathing areas. Following a recent spate of heavy rains, which temporarily resulted in elevated levels of fecal contamination, officials report that water quality has now returned to acceptable standards.
Supplementary samples were collected from multiple sites, including Staranzano’s “Lido di Staranzano,” Monfalcone’s “Marina Julia” and “Marina Nova,” Trieste’s “Diga Nord,” and Muggia’s “Bagno Muggesano” and “Bagno GMT.” The tests confirmed that water quality at these locations meets regulatory requirements, allowing normal bathing activities to resume.
The announcement was made by Fabio Scoccimarro, the Regional Assessor for Environmental Defense. Scoccimarro noted that additional results from the Municipality of Grado, covering “Camping Tenuta Primero,” “Camping Europa e Punta Spin,” and “Lido del Carabiniere,” will be available later today.
“The initial samples indicated higher-than-permissible levels of fecal contamination, likely due to recent heavy rains,” Scoccimarro explained. “These conditions were fortunately short-lived. Although regulations permit resampling within 72 hours, I directed Arpa to re-test within 24 hours at the start of the season to minimize disruption for tourists and local bathers.”
The Environmental Protection Agency’s timely response underscores a proactive approach to maintaining the region’s appeal as a safe and clean destination for visitors. The quick turnaround in ensuring water quality highlights the importance of environmental oversight in the wake of adverse weather events.
