In a celebration of timeless Italian operetta, Trieste’s historic Politeama Rossetti has welcomed the enchanting melodies of “L’Acqua Cheta” to inaugurate the 2024 Operetta Festival. Adapted from Augusto Novelli’s eponymous comedy and set to the lyrical genius of Giuseppe Pietri, the production promises an evening of musical delight.

Under the auspices of Triestestate and in collaboration with the International Operetta Association FVG, the Giuseppe Verdi Foundation of Trieste, and the Teatro Stabile FVG, this year’s festival marks a triumphant return to the city’s cultural calendar. The festival’s ambitious program features a diverse array of operettas and musical spectacles, commencing with the beloved “L’Acqua Cheta.”

Directed by Andrea Binetti and featuring a stellar cast led by Ilaria Zanetti and Marzia Postogna as the spirited sisters Ida and Anita, the operetta transports audiences to a quaint Florentine courtyard along the Arno River. Against this picturesque backdrop, the characters’ lives unfold with comedic flair and romantic intrigue, accompanied by Pietri’s evocative score.

Romolo Gessi conducts the esteemed FVG Orchestra, ensuring each note resonates with grace and harmony, while the stage comes alive with Andrea Mistaro’s direction of a vibrant chorus.

“L’Acqua Cheta,” originally staged in 1920 at the Teatro Drammatico Nazionale in Rome, reflects Novelli and Pietri’s enduring collaboration and their commitment to Italian operetta. The production’s revival in Trieste after decades underscores its timeless appeal and cultural significance.

Rossana Poletti, overseeing production, remarks, “Our strength lies in our unified team, dedicated to revitalizing this cherished musical genre. Artists, singers, actors, musicians, technicians, and collaborators alike pour passion into every performance.”

For aficionados and newcomers alike, tickets for “L’Acqua Cheta” are available at the Politeama Rossetti Box Office and through VIVATICKET, offering an opportunity to experience the magic of Italian operetta amidst Trieste’s summer festivities.

As the curtain rises on “L’Acqua Cheta,” Trieste’s Operetta Festival 2024 promises not just entertainment, but a celebration of Italy’s rich musical heritage, brought to life in a city renowned for its cultural vitality.
