Starting Sunday, June 23, 2024, residents and visitors of the picturesque Barcola promenade will benefit from the installation of several public chemical toilets. This initiative, led by Elisa Lodi, the councilor for Real Estate and Sports Policies, aims to mitigate the inconvenience caused by ongoing construction in the area.

The temporary facilities will be strategically positioned near the “Topolini” free equipped beach, a popular destination for both locals and tourists. The construction work, which spans from the 4th to the 7th Topolino, has prompted the city to ensure that public amenities remain accessible.

“We recognize the importance of maintaining public convenience and hygiene, especially during this period of development,” Lodi stated. “These chemical toilets will provide much-needed relief and ensure that the promenade remains welcoming for all.”

The chemical toilets, provided by Nuovi Servizi Ecologia S.r.l. of Trieste and supplied by WC Loc Italia S.r.l. of Lacchiarella (MI), will be cleaned daily in the early morning hours to ensure they are in pristine condition for daytime use. For security and maintenance reasons, the toilets will be closed during the night.

The deployment of these facilities will follow a staggered schedule:

  • Until September 30, 2024, four standard model toilets will be available near the 4th, 5th, 6th, and 7th Topolini.
  • Until July 21, 2024, six standard model toilets and seven toilets designed for disabled individuals will be placed near the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 8th, 9th, and 10th Topolini.
  • On October 13, 2024, for the renowned “Barcolana” event, two standard model toilets and three toilets for disabled individuals will be available near the 1st and 3rd Topolini.

The comprehensive service package, costing €10,727.00 including VAT, encompasses transportation, installation, removal at the contract’s conclusion, daily cleaning, sanitation, both routine and special maintenance, waste pumping, disposal, and evening closures.
