Barcola celebrated a day of significant advancements for its sports community on Saturday with the inauguration of two key facilities: the newly rebuilt Rossignoli pier in Grignano and a state-of-the-art multifunctional sports field.
At noon, the Rossignoli pier, now under the aegis of the Sailing Society of Barcola and Grignano (SVBG), was officially opened in the Grignano marina. The pier had undergone extensive reconstruction following the devastating storm that struck last November. Mitja Gialuz, the president of SVBG, expressed heartfelt thanks for the communal effort that facilitated the pier’s renewal.
“The renewal of the pier after the November storm was made possible thanks to a truly important collective effort,” Mr. Gialuz said, acknowledging the contributions from various institutions, SVBG members, and especially those who labored intensively in recent months to complete the project. The ceremony saw Barcola’s parish priest, Don Antonio Greco, bless the pier in the presence of local dignitaries.
The celebratory mood continued into the evening with the unveiling of a new multifunctional sports field designed for basketball, five-a-side football, and pickleball. The facility, located at the far end of Park Bovedo, was inaugurated at 6:30 PM, attracting local authorities and notable athletes from Pallacanestro Trieste and Triestina Calcio, including Giancarlo Ferrero, Stefano Bossi, and General Manager Michael Arcieri.
The sports field’s construction, spearheaded by the Barcolano Sports Center Consortium, benefited from the financial backing of SVBG, Club del Gommone, Club Nautico Triestino Sirena, and Circolo Marina Mercantile Nazario Sauro. This collaboration underscored the community’s dedication to enhancing local sports infrastructure.
“This sports field is an important step forward for the Barcola sports and recreational center,” said Eng. Livio Pertot, president of the Barcolano Sports Center Consortium. He emphasized the field’s role in providing an essential venue for athletes’ physical training and engagement, even in adverse weather conditions.
The project, which commenced with the authorization process in November 2022, has been completed using high-quality materials and financed through a loan from ZKB. Mr. Pertot extended his gratitude to the four sports associations and all contributors who helped create a safe and welcoming environment for young athletes.
