In anticipation of the upcoming G7 Education Ministers meeting, the city of Trieste has announced a series of significant traffic restrictions aimed at ensuring security during the high-profile event. The meeting, which will bring together education ministers from the Group of Seven nations, is scheduled to take place from June 27 to June 29.
The Municipality of Trieste, following directives from the Trieste Police Headquarters, has issued Ordinance No. 660-24, detailing the traffic measures that will be in effect during the summit.
Starting at noon on Thursday, June 27, vehicular traffic will be prohibited along the lateral branch of Viale Miramare, stretching from the Miramare Junction/Strada Costiera to the entrance of Miramare Castle, known as “Porta della Bora.” This restriction will remain in place until further notice.
Further restrictions will take effect at 7:00 AM on Friday, June 28, lasting through Saturday, June 29. These will affect the Trieste waterfront, specifically the section from Riva del Mandracchio to Riva Caduti per l’Italianità and Riva Tre Novembre, between the intersections of Via Felice Venezian and Piazza Nicolò Tommaseo. Additionally, Via di Mercato Vecchio, from its intersection with Riva Del Mandracchio to Via Luigi Cadorna, will also be closed to vehicular traffic.
On the final day of the summit, Saturday, June 29, starting at 9:00 AM, restrictions will expand to include the route from Piazza Nicolò Tommaseo through Via del Canal Piccolo to Piazza della Borsa. This encompasses the area between Rive Tre Novembre and Via Roma/Corso Italia, which will be off-limits to all vehicles until further notice.
Exceptions to these restrictions will be made for emergency vehicles, law enforcement, and transport vehicles specifically authorized by the Trieste Police Headquarters, ensuring that essential services remain unaffected.
The G7 meeting is expected to draw significant attention, not only due to the presence of top education officials but also because of its potential impact on global education policy. Trieste, a city renowned for its cultural and historical significance, is preparing to host this prestigious event with heightened security and logistical planning to ensure its smooth execution.
