This week, the University of Trieste is hosting the first session of its 2024 Summer Training Modules, an orientation initiative designed to give high school juniors and seniors a taste of university life. The program, which allows students to attend mini-courses and explore their future aspirations, has seen a significant increase in participation this year.
The initiative, aimed at helping students discover “what to do when they grow up,” has expanded its offerings to 18 modules, up from 12 the previous year. The multidisciplinary approach has proven attractive, drawing 702 participants — nearly 200 more than last year, reflecting a 40 percent increase.
The program’s appeal extends beyond the local area. Nearly 40 percent of this year’s attendees hail from outside Trieste, with 10 percent coming from other regions. Students from across Italy, including Campania, Emilia-Romagna, Lazio, Lombardy, Puglia, Sardinia, Sicily, Tuscany, Umbria, and Veneto, are participating. The initiative has also attracted international students from Argentina, Ethiopia, India, and Venezuela.
The opening ceremony took place on Monday, July 1, in the Aula Magna of the H3 building on the Piazzale Europa campus. The event featured Giulio Xhaet, partner and digital strategist at Newton S.p.A, who delivered an interactive speech titled “When I Grow Up: Finding One’s Purpose in Life.”
This remarkable growth in participation underscores the increasing demand for educational programs that offer students practical insights into their future careers. The University of Trieste’s Summer Training Modules are becoming an essential stepping stone for high school students eager to make informed decisions about their academic and professional futures.
