The Municipality of Trieste is set to introduce a wave of new inclusive play equipment across all municipal preschools, commencing with the “Pollitzer” and “Kamillo Kromo” schools. This initiative, spearheaded by the Department of Education and Family Policies, aims to create more accessible and engaging outdoor spaces for young children, including those with disabilities.
The project, funded through a regional grant established by the 2022 budget adjustment law, has secured approximately €300,000 for the installation of these new facilities across twenty-nine preschools. This grant was made possible under Regional Law 13/2022, Article 5, which supports the purchase of outdoor equipment and play structures for public and parochial preschools.
Initial installations feature vibrant spring toys at “Pollitzer” and “Kamillo Kromo,” both of which also serve as summer camp venues, as well as “Mille Bimbi.” These new additions mark the beginning of a comprehensive plan to enhance the outdoor environments of all municipal preschools by the end of the year.
The forthcoming installations will include an array of inclusive play structures designed to foster social interaction and learning in a playful setting. Among the new equipment are playhouses, modular structures with slides, platforms, and climbing elements, basket swings, and sensory and auditory play panels. These installations will be complemented by anti-trauma flooring to ensure safe play.
“This project places a spotlight on the growth, inclusivity, and safety of our young citizens,” said Maurizio De Blasio, Councilor for Education, School, Youth, Family, Library System, and Equal Opportunities. “I extend my personal gratitude to the staff and everyone involved in making this vision a reality.”
