An agreement that promises to benefit both workers, Wartsila, and MSC has been reached, marking a significant development after nearly two years of intense negotiations. This was announced by the Governor of the Friuli Venezia Giulia region, Massimiliano Fedriga.
“I congratulate the unions and the two companies for their sense of responsibility that brings us closer to a solution after almost two years of tough negotiations,” said Governor Fedriga. “I hope this agreement will close a season of conflicts and open one of development, thanks to two great companies, one confirming its presence in the area and the other starting a path on which I have high expectations.”
The agreement involves the unions, Wartsila, and MSC, focusing on the conditions for the transition of workers affected by the closure of engine production at the Bagnoli plant.
“What has been defined between yesterday and today is not yet the final step in the dispute process, but it is a very important and unexpected step,” Mr. Fedriga added. “Now the workers will have their say, and then the common work of the institutions and the entities involved will continue to finalize the Program Agreement, which is already in a very advanced stage.”
Mr. Fedriga extended his gratitude to Confindustria Alto Adriatico for its crucial mediation and synthesis efforts. “The Region, in constant coordination with the Ministry of Enterprises and Made in Italy, will continue to do its part for the protection of employment and the economic development of the area,” he affirmed. “So let’s all move forward together towards the common goal.”
Alessia Rosolen, the Regional Labor Councillor, lauded the unions for their strategic understanding. “The unions recognized that their action protects not only the workers involved in reindustrialization but also those continuing with Wartsila and related industries. These workers now face new challenges for the development of the area. It is right that the workers now have the task of shaping their future and that of our community,” Ms. Rosolen said.
Sergio Emidio Bini, the Regional Productive Activities Councillor, hailed the agreement as a significant step forward for the Bagnoli della Rosandra site. “The path must now continue, and the Region is concretely committed to ensuring the attraction of investments and the growth of the entire industrial area of Trieste,” Mr. Bini stated. “This commitment is evidenced by the significant resources allocated in the budget adjustment in favor of Coselag, which will be used to strengthen the railway infrastructure serving the former Wartsila site and the entire local sector.”
