The Teatro Lirico Giuseppe Verdi is set to host the European premiere of the critically acclaimed musical “MIMMA” on July 30 and 31 at 8:30 PM. This event marks a significant cultural occasion, merging art with philanthropy, as it aims to support the IRCCS Burlo Garofolo with a fundraising initiative for a vital project.

“MIMMA” narrates a poignant and gripping tale that spans from Turin to London, rooted in the true events of World War II. The musical connects disparate cultures and continents, skillfully intertwining melodic jazz, opera, and musical theater.

At the heart of the story is Mimma, an Italian journalist compelled to flee due to her anti-fascist propaganda efforts. She finds refuge with her uncle Lorenzo, who owns a jazz club in Soho. There, she forges a deep friendship with Sarah, an aspiring singer. The narrative unfolds against a backdrop of persecution, heroism, arrests, and deportations, with a steadfast focus on the enduring power of friendship as a source of hope in the darkest of times.

Businesses and institutions are invited to support this production by attending the performances, thereby contributing to a fundraising campaign that will enable Burlo Garofolo to construct two housing units. These units will accommodate women in labor who are not yet ready for the delivery room and families with premature infants requiring extended hospital stays.

Dr. Gabriele Cont, president of the Burlo Garofolo Foundation, underscores the importance of the initiative. “The Family Room represents a necessary step in supporting parenthood,” Dr. Cont explained. “These new units will offer a safe transition period for families, helping them manage the return home after long hospital stays.”

This event calls on the community to join in a dual mission: celebrating a narrative of human resilience and friendship while supporting a humanitarian cause of significant importance.

The fundraising aspect is straightforward. By purchasing one of the packages detailed in the attached information, patrons will secure entry to the performances on both Tuesday, July 30, and Wednesday, July 31. Additionally, attendees of the July 30 performance will be treated to a welcome cocktail at 6:30 PM, hosted by the renowned fusion chefs “Ivan & Masa” at the Savoia Excelsior Palace Trieste – Starhotels Collection (Riva del Mandracchio, 4 Trieste).

For those interested in contributing directly to the IRCCS Burlo Garofolo project, which benefits the obstetrics-delivery room and the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, donations can be made to the BURLO GAROFOLO FOUNDATION ETS (IBAN: IT12B0306909606100000157822), specifying the reason “Mimma family room project.” Alternatively, tickets for the show can be purchased at the theater or via the Vivaticket online portal.
