In a move to enhance residential security, the Municipality of Trieste has unveiled a new initiative, “Safety & Private Video Surveillance – Regional Financing for Citizens.” The announcement, made by the City Security Policy Councilor Caterina de Gavardo at a press conference on Tuesday, promises substantial financial support for local residents to install advanced security systems in their homes and businesses.
“This program is designed to improve security and reassure the community, particularly in response to concerns about theft and robbery,” Councillor de Gavardo stated. She highlighted the collaboration with the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region, which has allocated approximately 260,000 euros to fund the initiative. The press conference, held at the Sala Tergeste, also featured Deputy Commander of the Local Police, Paolo Jerman, and officials Daniela Zara and Maximiliano Pozzetto.
Residents who have lived in the region for at least five years, along with owners of common condominium areas, religious buildings, and properties used for commercial or industrial purposes, are eligible to apply for the funding. The scope of the funded projects includes the installation of anti-theft, anti-robbery, and anti-intrusion systems, as well as video surveillance. However, expenses for safes, access gates, property fencing, and security contracts are excluded from the subsidy.
The initiative offers a generous contribution covering 75% of the approved expenses, ranging from a minimum of 1,000 euros to a maximum of 3,000 euros per applicant. This applies to costs incurred from April 29, 2023, through December 31, 2024. Labor costs for the installation are also included among the eligible expenses.
“We have listened to the concerns of the Trieste community, who are particularly sensitive to security issues at this time,” de Gavardo remarked. “Our goal is to provide comprehensive security solutions to foster a safer environment.”
Deputy Commander Jerman emphasized the importance of compliance with privacy regulations during the installation of video surveillance systems. “These contributions will allow citizens to enhance their security measures while adhering to current privacy laws,” he said.
The application deadline for this funding is January 31, 2025, with the final date for processing payments set for June 30, 2025. The initiative stems from the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region’s February 2023 regulation, which supports local authorities in financing security systems for private properties.
Further details and application forms are available on the Municipality of Trieste’s website. Citizens can also seek assistance in person at the designated service desks.
