Italy’s summer travel scene is set to receive a fresh infusion of elegance with the debut of the Espresso Riviera, an express rail service designed to whisk passengers between Milan and the French Riviera. Scheduled to operate on select weekends this summer, from August 3 to September 1, 2024, this new addition to the FS Treni Turistici Italiani fleet promises both luxury and convenience for discerning travelers.
The Espresso Riviera will depart from Milan’s bustling Centrale station at 07:35 each weekend, making its way to the glamorous city of Nice. Travelers can anticipate a scenic journey that includes brief stops at some of the Côte d’Azur’s most picturesque locales: Menton and Monaco-Monte Carlo. The train is set to arrive in Nice at 13:15, allowing passengers ample time to explore the French Riviera’s renowned attractions.
The return leg of the journey will see the Espresso Riviera leaving Nice at 17:12, with a series of charming pit stops en route to Milan, including Ventimiglia, Sanremo, Savona, Genoa, and Pavia. The train is scheduled to reach its Milan destination at 23:40.
This new service, part of a broader initiative to enhance tourist rail options, boasts a range of amenities designed to cater to the needs of its passengers. Onboard, travelers will find dining facilities, as well as the ability to bring pets and sporting equipment such as surfboards, ensuring a comfortable and convenient trip.
The successful launch of the Espresso Riviera has been made possible through a collaborative effort between Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane, SNCF Réseau—the French rail infrastructure manager—and Trenitalia France. This international partnership underscores the growing synergy between Italy and France in promoting cross-border tourism.
