On Tuesday, August 27, the Civic Museum of Antiquities “J.J. Winckelmann” will host the concluding event of its tenth annual “Archeologia di Sera” series, promising a captivating evening that intertwines history with music. The event, titled “Unveiling the Past Between Caves and Castellieri,” will begin at 8:30 p.m. in the museum’s garden, with free entry starting at 8:00 p.m.
The night will be anchored by a presentation from Costanza Brancolini, who will delve into the museum’s collection of prehistoric and protohistoric artifacts. These include items from local caves, castellieri (ancient fortified settlements), and necropolises. This collection is notable for its historical depth, with many pieces excavated during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Noteworthy among them are artifacts from the extensive work of Carlo Marchesetti, whose excavations in the Carso, Istria, and the Isonzo region revealed a rich array of prehistoric and protohistoric remains.
Following Brancolini’s presentation, at 9:30 p.m., the instrumental group Lumen Harmonicum from Trieste will perform in the museum’s garden. Their concert, the fourth in their series “Treasures & Musical Curiosities Among the Triestine Popular Songs of the Carlo Schmidl Museum,” will spotlight works starting with the letter “D,” including “Do Soldi de Ideal!” The performance will feature a diverse program, including a reimagined version of Mozart’s “Don Giovanni” by composer Nicola Samale and a piece by French composer Camille Saint-Saëns, arranged by Giulia D’Andrea.
The evening will also feature the Trio led by Corrado Gulin, alongside Marco and Massimo Favento on piano, violin, and cello, respectively. They will be joined by the young performer Francesca Marsi, adding a dynamic blend of new compositions, songs, and nostalgic gags from historic Trieste.
The event offers an intriguing fusion of cultural and historical exploration, inviting attendees to engage with both the ancient past and the vibrant musical traditions of Trieste.
