The rugged and picturesque Karst region once again finds itself besieged by wildfires. On Monday morning, a fast-moving fire erupted in the wooded area near the road leading to Lake Doberdò, rekindling a familiar nightmare for the region.
The fire, fueled by the region’s scorching late-summer heat and strong winds, quickly spread across approximately two hectares (nearly five acres) of forest.
As of now, no casualties or damage to homes have been reported, but the fire is wreaking havoc on local wildlife and natural habitats.
Efforts to contain the blaze have been challenging. Local authorities swiftly mobilized, deploying a civil protection helicopter, along with five firefighting teams and four vehicles from the towns of Monfalcone and Gorizia. They were joined by units from the Forestry Service and law enforcement officers, who worked to reroute traffic away from the danger zone.
