Due to unfavorable weather conditions forecasted for tomorrow, the city of Trieste has announced a change in plans for its scheduled seawatching event. Originally part of the “Passeggiando s’Impara” (Walking to Learn) initiative, the underwater exploration meant for swimmers has been substituted with a guided walk along the Barcola shoreline.
City officials confirmed the adjustment earlier today, citing safety concerns and weather forecasts for Saturday, September 14. The new activity will focus on the environmental impacts of human activity along the coast, both the positive and negative aspects of the anthropization of marine environments.
The event will commence at 11:30 a.m., with participants gathering at the ninth “topolino” along the Barcola promenade—a recognizable feature along the waterfront known for its small piers and bathing areas. The meeting point is located just before the iconic Miramare Castle, offering a scenic backdrop for the discussion on marine conservation.
Unlike the original seawatching, which had limited capacity, the walk is open to a larger group, and pre-registration is no longer required. Participation is free, though attendees are asked to fill out a simple form, either beforehand or on-site at the meeting point. The city has ensured that the event will be accessible to all, including families and individuals with limited mobility, as the route is along a smooth sidewalk and lasts approximately one to two hours.
Public transportation options, including buses No. 6 and No. 36, will take visitors directly to the Barcola area, a beloved spot for Trieste residents and tourists alike.
