The small town of Muggia is set to be featured in the upcoming film A Year of School, directed by Laura Samani. The movie, which draws inspiration from the novel by Giani Stuparich, will showcase a cast of first-time actors making their cinematic debuts. Samani has garnered international attention for her work, having been selected as one of six directors to participate in the prestigious Residence program at the Cannes Film Festival.

Filming will take place over two days in Muggia. On Monday, October 21, from 6:30 PM to 2:30 AM, scenes will be shot in the town’s center, specifically on Via Dante Alighieri and Calle Graziadio. Filming will continue on Tuesday, October 22, from 4:00 PM to 1:30 AM, focusing on Strada per Lazzaretto. Local authorities have issued temporary road closures and parking restrictions to accommodate the production. The film crew has apologized in advance for any disruptions this may cause.

To manage logistics during the shoot, the local government has implemented a series of ordinances. On Monday, October 21, starting at noon, parking will be prohibited in several areas of the town, including Via Battisti, Via Manzoni, Via Dante Alighieri, Calle Graziadio, Via Carducci, Piazza Marconi, and Corso Puccini. The restrictions will remain in place until 8:00 AM the following day.

Similarly, on Tuesday, October 22, parking bans will be extended to other locations, including the west side of Parco Aquario and certain areas of Lazzaretto. Traffic restrictions will be in effect on Strada per Lazzaretto from 4:00 PM until 1:00 AM on Wednesday, October 23.

Additional filming will take place on Friday, October 25, through Saturday, October 26, with further parking bans planned for the small square in Chiampore, in front of civic number 1.

As the town prepares to accommodate the film production, local officials are working to ensure that any disruptions are kept to a minimum. Muggia, known for its charming streets and picturesque views, is expected to provide a striking backdrop for the film’s scenes.

With the rise of Laura Samani as a promising director on the international stage, the filming of A Year of School marks an important cultural moment for the region.
