On Saturday, October 26, Trieste will inaugurate the seventh edition of Kaiserfest, a week-long event that celebrates the city’s rich Habsburg heritage. The festival, running from October 26 to November 3, will feature guided tours, period-costume parades, traditional cuisine, and live music, reviving the historical connection between Trieste and Austria.
Silvio Pozenu, president of Altamarea Eventi, which organizes the festival in collaboration with the city, announced the return of Kaiserfest after the success of previous editions. The first festival, held in 2016, commemorated the centenary of Emperor Franz Joseph I’s death in 1916. Pozenu emphasized Trieste’s importance as the third-largest city in the Austro-Hungarian Empire and noted the festival’s aim to reconnect with this illustrious past.
This year’s Kaiserfest includes numerous cultural events, such as guided tours of historic sites tied to the Habsburg era, including the Museo del Mare and the Serb-Orthodox and Greek-Orthodox cemeteries. A new addition is a tour of the Museo de Henriquez and a special exhibit at the Palazzo delle Poste, celebrating 130 years of architectural and postal history.
Musical highlights include the San Giusto concert on November 3, performed by the G. Verdi Civic Wind Orchestra. On the same day, visitors can enjoy a grand period-costume dance in Piazza Ponterosso, accompanied by live music evocative of the late 19th century Viennese “Schrammelmusik.”
The event promises to attract both locals and tourists, offering a rich blend of history, tradition, and entertainment.
