A new measure from the Italian government will provide a €100 Christmas bonus to millions of taxpayers, including single parents, as part of a broader effort to support low-income families during the holiday season.
The bonus, tied to the annual tredicesima paycheck traditionally given in December, was expanded under the Concordatodecree, recently approved by Parliament. It now applies to households with dependent children and an annual income of €8,500 to €28,000, increasing the pool of eligible recipients to 4.5 million people.
The measure originally excluded single parents but now covers single-parent households, including those with children born out of wedlock, adopted children, or those in foster care. It also eliminates a prior requirement that only divorced or legally separated individuals could qualify.
Deputy Minister of Economy and Finance Maurizio Leo stressed that the bonus will not count toward taxable income and will complement other recent fiscal measures, such as payroll tax cuts. Taxpayers who miss the application deadline can still claim the bonus as a tax credit in their 2025 returns.
Public-sector employees must apply via the NoiPa portal by November 22, while private-sector employees can follow deadlines set by their employers.
Luca Ciriani, Italy’s Minister for Relations with Parliament, praised the initiative as a “concrete and real” form of support during the holidays. The government is incorporating the measure into its budget law, with approval expected before Christmas.
This bonus reflects the Italian government’s focus on economic relief for struggling families, as it continues to search for ways to reduce tax burdens and stimulate growth.
