In a bid to address issues ranging from violent radicalization to gender equality and cultural integration, the Regional Government of Friuli Venezia Giulia has approved a comprehensive update to its immigration grant regulations, the administration announced last Thursday.
The amendments, tied to Law 9/2023 on immigration, aim to improve the efficiency of grant allocations while addressing critical social challenges. “The goal is to foster integration and legality while maintaining a strong stance against radicalization, discrimination, and crime,” said Pierpaolo Roberti, the Regional Councillor for Local Autonomies and Security.
Key Changes Across Four Programs:
- Combating Radicalization
Updates expand the pool of eligible beneficiaries and outline stricter requirements for proposed activities, including the disclosure of personnel and detailed expense categories. Projects must now meet a 32-point minimum score and be completed by January 31 of the following year. - Promoting Gender Equality
Grants aimed at ensuring gender equality within foreign communities now feature clarified expense guidelines and personnel requirements. The eligibility threshold remains 32 points, with a February 28 completion deadline. - Fostering Cultural Pluralism
Efforts to celebrate cultural, linguistic, and historical diversity will benefit from a broadened range of eligible applicants. Projects must also meet the 32-point threshold and conclude by March 31 of the following year. - Supporting Local Governments
The most significant changes address migration management at the municipal level. Social mediation initiatives, youth integration programs, and urban regeneration projects are emphasized, each with specific scoring criteria ranging from 21 to 26 points. All activities must be completed by January 31 of the following year.
Broader Implications
The new rules underscore the region’s commitment to integration while balancing firm measures against extremism and social discord. By requiring detailed reporting and raising eligibility standards, the government aims to ensure accountability and effectiveness in addressing complex migration challenges.
The changes come as Friuli Venezia Giulia continues to navigate increasing migration flows and their impact on local communities.
