The Burlo Garofolo Foundation, in partnership with the Municipality of Trieste and the Italian Federation of Local Authorities and Healthcare Workers (FIALS), will host a two-day training course on November 25 and 26 aimed at addressing gender-based violence. The event coincides with the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women.
Held at the UNICUSANO University campus, the program is designed to equip public sector workers—including healthcare professionals and municipal employees—with skills to identify and respond to instances of violence during their daily interactions with the public. The course, which is free and open to all, will also offer professional development credits for participants.
Sessions will cover topics such as online abuse, psychological violence, and economic coercion. Key speakers include Inspector Luca Penna, head of the Cybersecurity Crime Team, psychologists Maria Ferrara and David Daris, and Chief Anti-Crime Commissioner Stefania De Castro, who will discuss current legal measures and support networks for victims.
Margherita Paglino, a member of the Burlo Garofolo Foundation’s board and event organizer, highlighted the importance of education in preventing violence. “Public servants are often the first point of contact for victims. Training them to recognize the signs is essential in tackling this issue,” she said.
The initiative reflects a broader effort by local institutions to address violence against women through awareness, prevention, and support systems.
On November 25 and 26, a free training course on recognizing and combating gender-based violence will take place at the UNICUSANO University campus, Via Fabio Severo 14/A, starting at 9:00 a.m. each day.
