For the first time in its illustrious history, Cirque du Soleil will perform in Trieste, bringing its iconic production Alegría – In A New Light to the heart of the city from June 13 to July 13, 2025. Set to take place under the Grand Chapiteau in the historic Silos area, this international event is already shaping up to be one of the most significant cultural happenings of the year.

Over 10,000 tickets have already been sold for the show, a reimagined version of the 1994 classic, renowned for its breathtaking acrobatics and emotional storytelling. With 40 exclusive performances scheduled, the production promises to be a landmark moment for this port city on the Adriatic Sea, which has been increasingly positioning itself as a European cultural hub.

A Historic Venue Transformed

The Grand Chapiteau will rise on an open expanse adjacent to Porto Vecchio, a revitalized area that has long been central to the city’s identity. Uniquely positioned just steps from Trieste’s bustling train station and well-connected by local transportation, the location reflects the show’s commitment to accessibility and urban integration.

“Unlike its usual placement on city outskirts, the Grand Chapiteau will sit at the crossroads of history and modernity,” said Francesco Mario Granbassi, president of Teatro Stabile del Friuli Venezia Giulia, one of the event’s main organizers. “This is more than a performance—it’s a statement about Trieste’s ability to host world-class events in its very heart.”

Cultural and Economic Impact

The arrival of Cirque du Soleil is expected to generate significant economic and cultural ripple effects for Trieste, drawing visitors from across Central Europe. Local businesses and tourism officials anticipate a surge in activity, with hotels, restaurants, and nearby attractions poised to benefit.

The production will involve over 350 personnel, including 100 local professionals, further embedding the event into the city’s social fabric. “This is not just a show; it’s an opportunity to showcase Trieste’s potential as a vibrant, international destination,” said Duncan Fisher, President of Touring Shows at Cirque du Soleil Entertainment Group.

A Community Collaboration

The event owes its realization to a collaboration between public and private stakeholders, including Coop Alleanza 3.0, Teatro Stabile del Friuli Venezia Giulia, Alveare Produzioni, and Vivo Concerti. In a unique gesture, Coop Alleanza 3.0 offered the venue free of charge, underscoring its commitment to community enrichment.

“This initiative demonstrates our dedication to supporting the communities we serve,” said Milva Carletti, General Director of Coop Alleanza 3.0. “We are thrilled to bring this extraordinary event to our 51,000 members in Trieste and beyond.”

A Bridge Between Past and Future

The Silos area, historically significant yet underutilized, is set to become a focal point for urban regeneration. Organizers have drawn parallels between this venue and Cirque du Soleil’s origins in Montreal’s port district, where the troupe first began transforming unconventional spaces into cultural landmarks.

“This event is a bridge between tradition and innovation,” Granbassi said. “We are writing a new chapter for both Cirque du Soleil and Trieste, cementing the city’s place on the global cultural map.”

Tickets and Tour Information

Alegría – In A New Light will also tour Rome (March 1 to April 13, 2025) and Milan (April 25 to June 2, 2025) before making its historic stop in Trieste. Tickets are available through authorized platforms such as TicketOne.

With its dazzling costumes, awe-inspiring acrobatics, and stirring music, Alegría – In A New Light continues to be a celebration of human artistry and resilience. As the Evening Standard aptly put it, “Alegría will leave you breathless.”
