As dusk fell on this small town near Trieste on Tuesday evening, the streets of Opicina were transformed into a winter wonderland with the annual lighting of the Christmas decorations. The ceremony, held in front of the Slovenian Cultural Society Tabor on Via Nazionale, marked the beginning of the holiday season with music, community spirit, and a celebration of local traditions.

The event featured a captivating performance by the Male Choir MOPZ, Moški Pevski Zbor Kraški dom, from Monrupino, directed by Vesna Guštin, and the lively tunes of accordionist Cristian Leghissa. Residents and visitors gathered to enjoy the festivities, basking in the warm glow of the newly lit displays that will illuminate the town until January 12.

Organized as part of the “In Opicina… Christmas with Us 2024” initiative, the celebration showcased the collaborative spirit of the community. Sponsored by the Consorzio Centro in Via – Insieme a Opicina – Skupaj na Opčinah, the Municipality of Trieste, and the Second District Altipiano Est, the event was also supported by Confcommercio, Terziaria Trieste, and the Carso Credit Cooperative Bank.

The festive lights are more than just decoration; they symbolize the deep sense of identity and pride that defines Opicina. “It’s a magical moment that brings everyone together,” said one local resident, admiring the shimmering displays. “It reminds us why we love living here.”
