In a city where the Adriatic Sea meets Habsburg elegance, the Municipality of Trieste is once again inviting locals and tourists to step beyond its grand façade. On Saturday, December 14, the city’s historic City Hall will host VisitiAMO il Municipio, an exclusive Christmas-themed event offering rare access to spaces normally closed to the public.

The initiative, which has garnered widespread enthusiasm following October’s FAI Autumn Days, promises a guided tour through architectural treasures and artistic masterpieces within the iconic building. Visitors will explore the City Council Chamber, the Mayors’ Gallery, and the Blue Salon, where some of Trieste’s most storied moments have unfolded.

A Peek Inside History
The highlight of the tour is Cesare Dell’Acqua’s monumental painting, The Commercial Prosperity of Trieste, displayed in the City Council Chamber. The Mayors’ Gallery features portraits of historical leaders, while the Blue Salon offers a glimpse into its ceremonial splendor, crowned by Hans Makart’s masterpiece, Allegory of Navigation.

The City Hall’s archive will also display a curated selection of historical documents, and visitors will be treated to sweeping views of Piazza dell’Unità d’Italia, its Christmas lights and decorated trees casting a magical glow over the square and the sea beyond.

Practical Details
The one-hour tours, conducted in Italian, are free but require reservations. Bookings open Monday, December 9, at 3 p.m. via Eventbrite or in person at the Citizen Service Desk on Via Punta del Forno. Time slots are available in the morning and afternoon, with a maximum of two tickets per person.

Participants are urged to arrive punctually with their digital or printed confirmation, as late arrivals cannot be accommodated.

A Digital Twist on Tradition
This year’s edition of VisitiAMO il Municipio introduces a contemporary twist: the #DigitaleFacile initiative, aimed at demystifying the digital world. Visitors can join a brief workshop on topics like fake news and online safety, leaving with practical tools for navigating the internet — and a festive gift as a memento.

A City Shaped by the Past and Future
Trieste, known for its rich history and cultural vibrancy, continues to balance tradition with innovation. Events like VisitiAMO il Municipio not only showcase the city’s past but also connect its residents and visitors to the tools of tomorrow.

For more information or to reserve your spot, visit the municipality’s website or contact the Citizen Service Desk at +39 040 675 7222.
