The Fincantieri Foundation has entered a new chapter in its mission to preserve Italy’s rich maritime heritage while promoting innovation and inclusion. Founded in 2008, the Foundation is expanding its role in the maritime sector with ambitious projects aimed at building bridges between Italy’s shipbuilding past and its future.
At a launch event in Rome, Pierroberto Folgiero, CEO of Fincantieri, emphasized the Foundation’s role in translating over 230 years of Italian shipbuilding history into future innovation. “The strength of Fincantieri lies in balancing deep roots with a vision for the future,” he said.
The Foundation unveiled a major publishing project, Fondazione Fincantieri: A Journey Through the History of Italian Shipbuilding, which traces the evolution of the sector over five volumes. The first book highlights Fincantieri’s pivotal role in Italian shipbuilding from the country’s unification to the present day.
In addition to its historical focus, the Foundation has committed to the digital preservation of shipbuilding archives, the creation of an interactive museum, and a new exhibition space at the Shipbuilding Museum in Monfalcone. The Foundation also aims to promote technological innovation through research awards and study programs.
With a renewed focus on inclusion, the Foundation has launched Italian language courses for foreign workers at Fincantieri’s shipyards, aiming to foster cultural integration and social solidarity. The initiative, initially offered in Monfalcone and Sestri Ponente, has already seen high demand and will be expanded further.
“This new chapter will unite tradition and modernity, preserving memory while fostering change,” said Fausto Recchia, President of the Fincantieri Foundation. The Foundation’s efforts aim to strengthen ties between the company, local communities, and future generations.
