On Friday, December 13, local officials and organizers gathered to announce the 2024 Bavisela di Natale, a non-competitive charity run that will take place on Sunday, December 22. The event, which combines athletic participation with charitable giving, aims to raise funds for the Burlo Garofalo Foundation, a key institution supporting the city’s children’s hospital.
The announcement took place in Trieste’s municipal council chamber, with key figures in attendance, including Elisa Lodi, Trieste’s City Councilor for Sports, Pierpaolo Roberti, Regional Councilor for Local Authorities and Public Administration, and Emilio Porto, President of APD Miramar. Also present were representatives from the Burlo Garofalo Foundation, including Vice President Marco Bono.
The race will start at 10:00 AM in Piazza Unità d’Italia, and participants can pick up their race bibs beginning at 8:00 AM. The course will lead runners and walkers through the historic streets of Trieste, passing landmarks such as the Cavana district and the Rive waterfront before reaching Campi Elisi and returning to the starting point. Organizers expect a festive atmosphere, with local residents joining in to support a cause close to the community’s heart.
“The Bavisela di Natale is about more than just a race—it’s an opportunity for the city to come together in support of those in need,” said Pierpaolo Roberti, Regional Councilor. “It’s a moment for families to enjoy the spirit of Christmas while also giving back to those facing health challenges, especially the children being treated at Burlo Garofalo.”
This year’s run is expected to build on the success of previous editions, which have become a tradition for Trieste. Last year’s event was described by Elisa Lodi as “a beautiful day of sports and joy,” and the 2024 edition is expected to be just as heartwarming. All proceeds from the €5 registration fee will go directly to the Burlo Garofalo Foundation, which provides vital support to the children’s hospital.
The event is free for children born in 2020 or later, ensuring that families can participate in this charitable occasion. Organizers also plan to raffle off Christmas gifts donated by event sponsors, creating an added sense of excitement for participants.
The Bavisela di Natale reflects Trieste’s commitment to community involvement, with local residents and visitors from outside the city coming together for both a fun and meaningful event. By combining physical activity with philanthropy, the race highlights the importance of solidarity during the holiday season, while providing practical support for the Burlo Garofalo Foundation’s ongoing work with young patients and their families.
As part of the festive tradition, Santa Claus will be present at the finish line to greet participants, adding a touch of holiday cheer to the event.
With the funds raised set to aid the Burlo Garofalo Foundation’s efforts in pediatric care, the Bavisela di Natale has become more than just a race—it is a symbol of Trieste’s spirit of generosity and community.
