On December 18 at 4:30 PM, the Civic Museum of War for Peace Diego de Henriquez will host a free guided tour of its poignant exhibition, “Vola Colomba: Triestine Chronicles 1945-54.” Led by Antonella Cosenzi, the museum’s curator, the tour invites visitors to delve into a turbulent yet defining chapter of Trieste’s history: the years leading up to its official reintegration into Italy in 1954.
The exhibition, inaugurated to mark the 70th anniversary of Trieste’s return to Italy, captures the city’s delicate postwar journey through evocative photographs, documents, and personal testimonies. Named after the 1952 Italian hit song “Vola Colomba,” which became a symbol of yearning for unity, the showcase offers a profound narrative of resilience, identity, and hope.
For those unable to attend the December 18 tour, the museum has announced additional dates: Sunday, December 29, at 11:00 AM, and two more opportunities on January 5 and January 10, 2025, also at 11:00 AM. The exhibition will conclude on January 12.
Located on Via dei Tominz 4, the Civic Museum of War for Peace Diego de Henriquez is renowned for preserving Trieste’s unique wartime legacy. Admission to the exhibition is included with the standard museum ticket.
The guided tours offer a unique chance to explore the cultural and historical threads that continue to shape modern Trieste. Visitors are encouraged to experience this thoughtful homage to a city that has long stood at the crossroads of nations and identities.
