Friuli Venezia Giulia’s ski resorts welcomed an unprecedented 250,597 visitors during the Christmas holiday season, from December 23 to January 6, marking a 34% increase compared to the previous year. This remarkable growth highlights the region’s emerging prominence as a winter sports destination, fueled by competitive pricing and high-quality infrastructure.
Regional Councillor for Tourism, Sergio Emidio Bini, called the results “unprecedented,” noting a peak of 24,866 skiers on January 4 — the highest single-day attendance ever recorded. Resorts like Piancavallo led the surge, with a 61% increase in visitors, while Tarvisio attracted the highest overall attendance, with 85,581 visitors — up 49% from the previous season.
Boom in International Visitors
Skiers traveled from nearby regions like Veneto as well as Slovenia, Austria, and Germany, and even as far as Poland and the Czech Republic, drawn by Friuli Venezia Giulia’s affordable lift passes and family-friendly promotions. Daily tickets were priced at €44 for adults, significantly undercutting rates in other Alpine regions. Children under eight skied for free.
Investments Pay Off
The region’s strategic investment in infrastructure, combined with a focus on family-oriented pricing and promotions, has been pivotal, according to Bini. The slopes remained in excellent condition throughout the holiday period, even without significant snowfall, thanks to the expertise of PromoTurismoFvg technicians.
Future Growth
The region aims to build on this momentum, with further investments planned to enhance facilities and maintain its competitive edge in the Alpine ski market. “These numbers confirm both the appeal of our mountains and the strong desire for skiing,” said Bini.
With its blend of affordability, accessibility, and quality, Friuli Venezia Giulia is poised to become a leading winter sports destination in Europe.
