A sweeping $8 million revitalization project is transforming Grignano Bay, a coastal gem in Trieste, with new pedestrian pathways, improved infrastructure, and a show-stopping panoramic elevator linking the marina to the historic Castelletto of Maximilian and Charlotte.
The two-year project, funded by the regional government, includes upgrades to lighting and pavement, a reorganization of parking and traffic, and the creation of accessible seaside walkways. Work began in October 2024 and is set to continue in phases, with the first refurbished pathways opening this summer.
“By summer, visitors will be able to enjoy the marina, though work on the panoramic elevator will continue uninterrupted,” said Cristina Amirante, Regional Councilor for Infrastructure.
Traffic restrictions are in place until March 31, and construction will pause in summer to accommodate swimmers and sailors before resuming in the fall. The project aims to preserve access to local businesses and enhance the area’s appeal for tourists and residents alike. Completion is expected in late 2026.
