The iconic Miramare Castle and its surrounding park, one of the most cherished landmarks in the Friuli Venezia Giulia region, is looking for a visionary partner to breathe new life into its historic Café Massimiliano and the recently acquired Sgaravatti Greenhouses. The initiative, launched by the Historical Museum and Park of Miramare Castle in collaboration with the Regional Directorate of National Museums, aims to combine tradition and innovation through an ambitious public-private partnership.

The museum’s public notice, published on its official website under the “Administrative Transparency” section, calls for proposals to enhance these spaces, promising a unique opportunity to make a cultural and creative mark on one of Italy’s most picturesque settings. The winner will be tasked with presenting a comprehensive project that encompasses the design, restoration, and management of the café and greenhouses, while also hosting cultural events and ensuring the preservation of these historic sites.
A New Vision for Café Massimiliano and the Sgaravatti Greenhouses
Café Massimiliano, nestled within the castle’s sprawling park, has long been a favorite of visitors and locals. Under the new initiative, the café will not only offer culinary delights but also serve as a cultural hub. Meanwhile, the Sgaravatti Greenhouses, a recent addition to the park’s property, are slated to become a multifunctional space. Proposals for these greenhouses include a botanical laboratory dedicated to scientific and cultural education, as well as venues for exhibitions, workshops, and events.
In addition to the management of these sites, the successful partner will also have the opportunity to install mobile kiosks throughout the park, further enhancing visitors’ experiences.
A Competitive Bid with Big-Name Interest
The six-year partnership, renewable for an additional six years upon mutual agreement and positive evaluation, has already attracted attention from prominent names in the local café scene. Sources indicate that several well-known downtown establishments are eyeing this rare opportunity to expand their reach to the idyllic setting of Miramare.
A Cultural Renaissance for Miramare
The park’s plans go beyond the physical transformation of its facilities. The selected partner will also be responsible for organizing a year-round program of cultural events, ensuring the park remains a vibrant destination for both locals and tourists. The combination of heritage conservation and forward-thinking design aims to position Miramare as a model for sustainable cultural development.
As proposals start rolling in, the region’s cultural and hospitality sectors are abuzz with anticipation. With the stakes high and the setting unparalleled, all eyes are now on Miramare Castle as it embarks on this exciting new chapter.
