The Municipality of Muggia conducted a successful test of newly installed flood barriers on Wednesday, marking a significant step in protecting its historic center from high water events.
The barriers, purchased by the municipality last year, were set up by Civil Protection teams on Tuesday evening, with assistance from the Local Police. By Wednesday morning, the barriers had effectively contained rising waters, particularly at the Mandracchio’s lowest point, where flooding would have otherwise reached the roadway.
Following the subsidence of the high tide, the barriers were dismantled and removed. Officials described the trial as a positive outcome and a promising measure to safeguard the town during future high water incidents.
Local authorities have expressed their commitment to refining the system as part of broader efforts to mitigate the impact of climate change and rising sea levels on the area.
